No chemistry between Jim and I.

September 22, 2010, I mysteriously injured my rib/left side so I haven’t worked out regularly for 4.5 months.  Did I do the math right?  Anyway, due to the SISTER CHALLENGE (SC) I decide that my rib/left side is going to hurt if I lay around babying it or if I get back to working out.  If I’m going to be in pain, I may as well look good, right?

Anyway, the gym (I like to call it Jim) and I really never had much chemistry.  I know it’s hard to believe, but I’m kind of a loner and have quite a germ phobia.  Jim, on the other hand is an attention whore and beyond filthy, no matter how much the staff wipes him down.  If you don’t believe me, try scanning him with the black light.

This past Sunday I decided it was time to give Jim another chance.  I packed my cute Adidas bag and headed out the door full of hope and vigor.   As I entered the ladies locker room, I looked to my left to see a naked woman in the sauna.  Actually, I’m not sure if it was the sauna because I immediately turned away.   See, here we go.  I’m not big on talking to strangers on a normal basis let alone talking to one that is sitting naked behind a see through glass door.   Is there not enough nakedness going on at her house?  WHY WHY WHY?

Outside the ladies locker room is my ever so patient husband waiting to guide me through the weight machines, since the last time I worked out regularly, I was using a different gym.  It didn’t take me long to figure out that these machines were going to be a little more challenging then my last gym.  As I’m trying to concentrate, a little plumpish lady, maybe 5’1, around 45 years old is lifting weights like she is a cut 25 year old, 6’5, 280 pound male.  Another fact you may not know about me is that I like peace and quiet from the time I wake up, until around 5:30 pm everyday.  Seriously, I don’t listen to music (unless I’m walking/jogging) or have the TV on all day until Den gets home from work.  You can imagine my dismay listening to this lady grunt and groan like she’s giving birth to a 12-pound baby.  WHY WHY WHY?

Finally, I finish my quaint and quiet little workout routine so I decide it’s time to get on the treadmill.  Awesome, there is an empty one next to Den, which means, I won’t have to smile casually at some stranger before I start to walk.   I’m listening to Britney’s new song HOLD IT AGAINST ME, wondering what she really means, when I look over to see Den is in a full sprint (you will only see me in a full sprint if there is a rabid animal chasing me) making little grunting noises and sweating profusely as he places a new baseball cap on his soaked buzzed head.  WHY WHY WHY?

Bottom line-There is a time and a place to get naked, noisy and dirty but it’s not going to be with Jim or at the gym.

Sister's can be challenging

Jan 2011.  Here we go again.  Over-indulged during the holidays.  Time to get back in shape.  Will there ever be a New Year when getting in shape is NOT my New Year’s resolution.  One of these years, I want my New Year’s resolution to sky dive naked or go up in a hot air balloon naked or attend Mardi Gras naked.

Honestly, this year, my New Year’s resolution was going to be: to be less judgmental of people, but then my sister came up with the “Sister Challenge.”  It’s a long story, but basically, there are three of us.  I’m the oldest that was left by the way side; Jeny was born 353 days later and must have been way cuter since she was a keeper.  Nicci was the last-born girl (that we know of) and was most likely the only one planned.  I don’t know any of this to be factual information but that’s how it plays out in my head.  There is also brother Rob (no, he’s not a priest) that is the baby of the family.  I’m not sure if anyone asked him to join the “Sister Challenge.”

So the “SC” started January 10, 2011.  Gathering all the information has been a challenge all right.  Tracking food and setting up my workout routine.  You would think I started a full time job.  Well, in my case, that would be any job.  Either way it’s a lot of dang work.  I’m doing great on eating properly, but getting my arse up and moving is a whole other story.  On top of that, sleep is NOT my friend.

Bottom line, the three of us are all supporting each other 100% but don’t get me wrong, we are all fiercely competitive, so this should be interesting.  Please wish us luck.  Add a little more for me since I am the OLDEST and clearly have abandonment issues.  J
